Reduce Salt Intake
- Based on mounting evidence that thousands of lives could be saved each year by cutting sodium consumption across the population, the American Heart Association has issued a statement recommending 1500 mg a day as the upward limit for healthy sodium intake. This recommendation is considerably lower than that of the World Health Organization (WHO) which recommends a salt intake of <5 g or 90 mmol/day or .1 ( see Salt Restriction)
